Categories
Find words for categories starting with the same letter – who is the most creative?
How to Play
Goal
Find a word for each category starting with the given letter. Unique answers score more!
Gameplay
Each round a random letter is chosen. All players fill in the categories simultaneously.
Voting
After time runs out, everyone votes on whether answers are valid.
Points
Valid unique answer: 10 points. Valid but duplicate: 5 points. Invalid/empty: 0 points.
Winner
After all rounds, the player with the most points wins.
Strategy & tips
Fill the hard categories first, not the easy ones. Everyone thinks of a city and a country — the points come from the columns where others leave blanks. Starting with the hardest column means tackling it before time pressure hits.
Unusual answers are worth more than correct ones. Being the only player with an entry earns full marks; matching answers split the points. The second-best idea is therefore often the better one.
Do not end the round until you are genuinely complete. Stopping early stops everyone, which mainly helps those who already finished. While you can still fill a gap, waiting usually pays.
Variants
Custom categories
The round starts by agreeing the columns together. Good for tailoring the game to a particular group.
Letter at the end
Every word must end with the drawn letter instead of starting with it. Unexpectedly hard.
No timer
Play continues until everyone is done. This removes the rush and rewards careful thought.

Origin
The game is played across Europe under local names and descends from a much older parlour game known in English as Guggenheim. All it ever needed was paper and a letter.
Its real appeal is not knowledge but scoring: the rule that matching answers count for less turns a question of what you know into a question of what everyone else will write.
Frequently asked questions
How many points per answer?
Full marks for an answer nobody else has, fewer when answers match, none for blank or invalid entries.
Who ends the round?
The first player to fill every column stops the round for everyone. That is a tactical tool, not just a race.
How many players work well?
Three to eight. The more players, the more valuable unusual answers become.
